Fixed Position Format

Top  Previous  Next

Fixed Position Format refers to the position of the characters in a file, in which each item in a field has the same starting position (in other words, the text lines up).

Most files you import here will have the following fields:

Item Code

Quantity

Cost Centre

For Databuild to read this file you need to specify the starting position of each field entry. Do this by quoting the number of characters to be read before this point. Use the counter at the top of the text box to read this number.

Before importing, enter the following:

Template: This is a name you give the settings below so that next time you import from the same source you do not have to re-enter the settings

Header Lines: Type the number of lines you want the system to ignore when importing (they may include headings such as an address or title which you do not want to include in your bill).

Strip Quotes: Some files will show quotation marks around items. Check this to remove quotation marks before importing.

From Values: Indicate starting position of items in each field (Use top counter to calculate).

Until Values: Indicate finishing position of items in each field (Use top counter to calculate).
