Converting system codes using the utility program Gchange32ADO.exe

Gchange is used to alter codes for items, item descriptions, cost centres, suppliers, contacts and job codes.  Gchange must be used to alter these codes as they occur multiple times throughout your system,  e.g.:  a supplier code can appear in the Catalogue, transactions, suppliers table, etc.  Gchange will find any occurrence of the code and change it accordingly to the new code.

Firstly, you need to install the diagnostic programs from the Databuild CD.

Once you have inserted the CD, click on Install Products Diagnostic Programs, then follow the prompts to install.  Once completed, open windows explorer and navigate to your DBW32 folder and double click the file GCHANGE32ADO.EXE.

Warning: gchange32ado.exe can do severe damage to a system if not used in the correct manner.  ALWAYS back-up your data before starting the exercise and make sure that no-one else is using or running Databuild at the time you are performing the changes.

Using GCHANGE32 ADO

1.Choose the type of code you wish to change.

2.Nominate your system and job database for the company that you wish to change codes.  Make sure the box is ticked next to the open file button.  (These files can be found by going into databuild setup, then on the Companies tab, select the company, and it will display the path to the job and system database on the right hand side of the screen)

3.Enter in the existing code in the Change FROM column, then enter the desired new code on the same line in the Change To column.   (Up to 1000 changes can be made)

Note: After you have entered the last line of changes, make sure you click down to the next line so the pencil icon on the left turns into an arrow.  It is also strongly advised to save your list of changes, to do this, click on file save, then type in a file name and click save. You can then load this file at a later date by clicking the open file button next to the Auto Load/Save File box.

Once you have performed the above three steps, make sure no-one is using Databuild and backed up your data, you can hit the GO button.

Note: If you have a separate Transaction database, you will need to perform the following after the above three steps are performed on the system and job database:

Uncheck the System database tick box, then nominate your Transaction database in the Job database box and hit GO so the program performs the same changes on your Transaction database.
