There are 2 different methods of viewing and manipulating Job Control data: Tree View and Grid/Chart. The differences between them can be summarized as follows:

Schedule

Grid/Chart

Simpler and faster

Slower and more cumbersome

Logic is more restricted:

You must start with a Milestone

You must end with another Milestone

Milestone activities must be in the root level.

All other activities must fall between adjacent milestones

Milestones have no duration (days are always zero)

The logic is more open ended. However you must nominate the relationship between all activities

Before and After activities are hidden and controlled by the system

You must specify Before and After activities

The system takes care of all logic

Setup is more cumbersome and it is possible to generate circular dependencies

Only the current activity details can be viewed

Multiple activities  can be viewed at once

Completion dates calculated are the Latest possible dates

Completion dates calculated are the Earliest possible dates

A float is displayed ( the number of days up your sleeve before delays impact on the project

No float is available

Completions can be entered graphically via activity check boxes

Completions entry is more cumbersome

No Filter bar

Filter bar allows data searching

Tree can be collapsed and expanded

Filtering by filter bar and check boxes

Milestones and other activities can be inked to User Definable Dates. These dates can be linked to the Claim Schedule to automatically generate progress Claims

Not available

The 2 systems can operate side by side, but be aware that they will generate different results when refreshing schedules (mainly because of the different treatment of completion dates). The current tab in the main Index Tab determines the method: if the current tab is the grid, you get the old method

It is anticipated that the Tree method will in time replace the Grid/Chart option, which is still there for legacy reasons. It is possible to turn off user's access to the Grid/Chart method in Setup

This screen has 9 tabs:

Schedule        Display a tree view of all activities for the current job and lets you modify their relationships

Suppliers        Displays all suppliers, their outstanding orders and a Gantt chart of their commitments, including any clashes

Grid                Display a grid of all activities for the current job and lets you modify their relationships

Only visible if "View Grid" option is set in Setup/Users job control permissions tree

Chart                Show the same data in a graphical Gantt chart format

Only visible if "View Chart" option is set in Setup/Users job control permissions tree
