Macros

Summary

Macros are a very useful tool in Databuild's estimating armory. They are in essence collections of estimating actions you would normally undertake combined into one single macro. When this macro is run, all the actions are performed in the order they appear.

Q Macro

Macros are accessed from the toolbar button in the following modules

Bill of Quantities

Graphical Takeoff

Global Quantities

Front End Update

Macros can call other macros, so the whole estimating process can be simplified and codified: by running a series of macros and sub-macros you can ensure that all operations have been undertaken in the correct order.

Macros can do nothing that you can't do long hand, but they can do those actions quickly and automatically.  When done manually, some of the macro actions such as repricing allow various options to be selected. To keep the macro processing automatically, the macro uses the default or last used options.

Macros perform their operation on the current job in the module they were called from. However, if called from Global Quantities, the actions will be performed on all selected jobs

The Macro screen consists of 2 panels, each with command buttons at their base:

The left panel holds a grid of all Macros, and 3 command buttons:

       new        Add a new Macro

copy        Make a copy of the current Macro. Often macros are similar, and it is easier to copy & modify

delete        Deletes the current or selected macro(s)

The right panel holds a grid of all lines in the current Macro, and 5 command buttons:

new        Add a new Macro Line

All_None        Selects or DeSelects all macro lines

copy        Make a copy of the selected Macro lines.

       paste        Pastes copied macro lines

delete        Deletes the current or selected macro line(s)
